Pool opening with reservations only

Mosling Recreation Center Pool Guidelines Phase 2 through July 31

According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention there is no evidence that the virus that causes Covid-19 can spread through properly treated pool or hot tub water.

  • Swimmers will follow the Mosling Recreation Centers rules for social distancing and personal hygiene.

  • Stay home when you are sick, especially with symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea or any Covid-19 symptoms.

  • The Mosling Recreation Centers safe plan is as follows:

- The Rec Center staff will sanitize the pool deck and shower/toilet area

after each member uses the pool.  This will be cleaned with a Wizywash wand and sage caplets used for sanitizing the deck, furniture, showers and toilets.

- The pool and hot tub levels will be maintained to the appropriate

disinfectant level recommended. Any pool with adequate disinfection will

inactivate corona virus, so careful attention will be paid to ensure that the

pool and hot tub have adequate disinfectant, proper ORP values and

proper re-circulation.

  • Drinking foundations will not be available to drink out of.  Our refill station will be open to refill water bottles.  Please bring your own water bottle.

  • Noodles and kick boards will be provided, but will be sanitized after each use.  Please bring your own goggles.  We will not be providing goggles.

  • There will be someone on the property to ensure that guidelines and regulations are followed.  The manager, staff member or committee member may be appointed to perform these duties.

  • Deck furniture will be spaced out and some removed until further notice.

  • A sanitizing station will be at door members enter and at door members exit.  We are asking that members using the pool or hot tub enter through the front door and exit through the door in the pool area to the parking lot.

  • We are asking that members come to the Rec in their swimsuit and leave in their swimsuit.

  • Pool reservations are required. These reservations are required. These reservations are good for 45 minutes which includes using the shower before and after pool use. The staff will have a 15 minute window to sanitize the deck and shower area before the next swimmers come in.

  • Showers must be taken before entering the pool or hot tub.

  • Two members at a time are allowed in the pool.  If a family would like to swim they will have the pool by themselves and they could have a pool for an extended time depending on demand. We will be using both locker room shower areas.  One swimmer in each bathroom unless family.

  • Classes in the pool can be scheduled, but 6 feet distancing from one another and staggering in the shower area will need to be followed.

Latest Rec News

Hello everyone,

After last nights meeting we have come up with a plan. We have written up some guidelines for the Rec that we are have submitted to the town of Washington to approve. Once approved we hope to reopen the Rec on June 1st for a phase 1 plan. This plan we will try out for two weeks and be adjusted as we go. We are going to reconfigure the weight room to make it safer and move some equipment into the Mosling room. To keep the staff safe a Plexiglas shield is being designed for the front desk. A sanitizer station has been ordered for the front door and donated to the Rec Center. For now with this soft opening we will not be opening the pool, hot tub or locker rooms until we get the go ahead . I am working with the YMCA and my pool people to make this a safe move forward. We will all have to get through this together. I do not want to put my staff or any members at risk. Please standby for the guidelines and schedule after the town decides to accept our guidelines. I will definitely post right away when I know we have the go ahead.

For safety reasons we will also not be hosting the Rec Run live this year. We are really hoping that everyone will please join on a virtual run we are trying to put together. This is our biggest fundraiser and I truly loved having everyone come together, even though I stress out a little bit. In a few weeks I will post information on the web and Facebook on how to do this event. Please, please, please consider this event.

If anyone has any questions on anything I check my email daily, so please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Together we can do this!!

Moving Forward

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to update everyone on the Rec Center. Tonight we will be having a meeting in regards to what our next steps are at the Rec Center. Please check back fro updates tonight or tomorrow on moving forward. We thank you for your understanding on this situation and cannot wait to have you all back safely at the Rec Center.

Rec Center Update

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone is staying healthy and finding ways to keep your body moving during this time. Just wanted to let you know that a few staff and I are taking care of miscellaneous tasks at the Rec during this shutdown. We have already taken care of one round of spring cleaning, carpets shampooed, bathrooms scrubbed, acid washed and did some re grouting in areas. Also the ladies showers are completely drip free and new internal parts have been replaced. I hope to finish up the men’s showers this week. Also we are hoping to do some paint repairs in areas. The weight room has had a makeover in regards to all the stacked up equipment that hasn’t been used in quite some time. Not much that we can move, but it definitely looks much nicer in there. Mosling room has been rearranged a bit and scrubbed top to bottom. The hot tub and pool have been at the required chlorine and PH readings. My “morning boys”, Dick and Terry, have taken shifts doing our daily readings.

We really miss seeing everyone each day, for me especially the teens, but we have to all stick together on this so we can once again be in our regular routines.

Stay safe!!!

Washington Island Foundation, INC and Washington Island Recreation Center Letter

WASHINGTON ISLAND FOUNDATION, INC. and WASHINGTON ISLAND RECREATION CENTER

Post Office Box 68 – Washington Island, Wisconsin 54246

                                                                                                                November 2019

Dear Friends,

This letter is an "historic first!"  Together, the Washington Island Foundation (WIF) and the Mosling Rec Center (the Rec) are writing to make you aware of two important developments.

The first is that the WIF has had to inform the Town Board that starting in 2020, it will no longer be able to finance the Rec's operations by withdrawing principal from the Endowment fund.  The original intent of the Mosling's gift to the Town was that the WIF would only draw on Endowment income to support the Rec.  In practice, the WIF has drawn upon both Endowment income and principal through the years to distribute $3.2 million to the Town of Washington, providing primary support for the Rec.  Unfortunately, this has resulted in the Endowment reaching a point where it can no longer sustain funding at levels it has in the past.   The WIF, the Rec, and the Town Board have all had to face the reality that continuing to withdraw principal from the Endowment fund would risk having to close the doors to the Rec within a few short years.  Moving forward, the Foundation will launch a major campaign in 2020 to replenish Endowment funds to a level which can fully fund the Rec from Endowment income.

The second important development is that the FOUNDATION HAS RECEIVED A $25,000 UNRESTRICTED YEAR-END GIFT. The WIF Board has decided to use this gift as a Challenge Grant for the Rec Center.  We are challenging the community to use this $25,000 gift as seed money towards 2020 funding for the Rec.  Between now and year’s end, we hope you’ll join us in supporting this matching Challenge Grant.  Doing so will enable the Rec to raise funds that are vital to its financial well-being.  And, by sharing this gift, we enable the Foundation to support the Rec while remaining within the parameters of its own financial realities. It also provides a transitional time to usher in a new era of mutual support between the Rec, the WIF and the Town Board, creating a new approach to supporting this important Island treasure.

We're confident you'll agree that the Mosling Rec Center is a significant element in the Island's lifestyle – one well-worth your financial commitment.  We hope to see you at the Rec often during the upcoming winter months and throughout the year - in the pool, the weight room, at a class or social gathering.   We encourage you to become a member or renew your membership and take full advantage of all the Rec has to offer.  Donation and membership information is enclosed with this letter.

We ask you to donate at the most generous level you can to keep the Rec flourishing as a resource for Islanders and visitors for years to come. Thank you for joining us in support of the Rec.

Sincerely,

The Washington Island Foundation, Inc. Board and the Recreation Center Committee

To My Volunteers

We made it thorough another crazy summer here at the Rec. We had great weather for all of our fundraising events too. I would like to personal thank everyone that helped to make our events a success, without my volunteers these events would not be able to run smoothly and I greatly appreciate everyone’s help. From our color run to our Rec run, the inflatables at the fair to selling ice cream at the barbecue I had great support and couldn’t have asked for better helpers. For those helpers behind the scene wither it was a donation or just support over the phone or donation of food, you are just as much appreciated! Thank you so much, until our next event!!!!
