On December 13th we will have our annual Season of Lights program. Each year the Rec Center hand writes letters to loved ones, addresses the letters and then mails them out to the person of your choice. There are forms at the Rec Center that can be filled out and left at the desk. Each person that receives a letter is also put on our Season of Lights book and has their name read off during our program. Our program is a gathering of people to hear the names read off, honor the person/people of the year, sing some songs, say a blessing, light the tree of lights and then have some snacks and warm cider and coffee. This event is open to everyone, so come bring in the Christmas spirit at the Rec Center.

Thanks to financial support from the Community Center Committee as well as many generous volunteers, free swimming lessons were provided to 42 children at the Mosling Rec Center after school twice a week during February and April. These lessons were open to all children (Rec Center membership/facility use fee not required). Special thanks to volunteers Adam Steffen, Alex Anderson, Judy Ryan, Maryjeanne Schaffmeyer, and Christian Foss as well as other certified instructors, Dr. Beth Lux and Steve Waldron. Extra special thanks to Katie McGrane and the Rec Center staff.
Registration is now open for summer swimming lessons. Lessons will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from July 9 through August 1 starting at 9am. Any child (recommend minimum age of 4) on the Island during our summer session is welcome to join us. Lessons will continue to be free, however, donations to support the program are much appreciated.
Sign up forms will be sent home from school in late May or early June. Forms are also available at the Rec Center. Please return the form by Monday, June 17. While we prefer swimmers attend all 8 days, we request a minimum commitment of 4 days. Please note anticipated absences on the form.
A list of recommended placements for students who have participated in prior sessions will be posted at the Rec. Class placements are based on demonstrating exit assessment skills listed in the American Red Cross (ARC) Swim Lessons Achievement Booklet (available at the Rec) as well as the best judgment of the instructors to create a safe and balanced learning environment.
Swimming is a progressive skill so students will continue to learn and increase confidence in the water no matter their level. We focus on being safe around and in the water as well as relaxing and having fun. Students who have practiced skills since their last session may be advanced. Instructors may also recommend a different class based on our assessment and/or class sizes — thanks in advance for your understanding.
Times for each class level are:
Rock (ARC Preschool Aquatics) 9:00-9:30am
Dune/Starfish (ARC Level 1 and adventurous preschoolers) 9:35-10:05am
Sandbar (ARC Level 2) 10:10-10:40am
Paddle/Harbor/Sharks (ARC Level 3 and 4) 10:45-11:15am
Please be sure students are showered and ready to go at class time. Some goggles are available at the pool and may be worn during class. Masks covering the nose and water wings may not be used. Long hair should be tied back.
Again, summer’s four-week session starts Tuesday, July 9th. A parent or guardian will need to fill out a registration form by Monday, June 17. A parent or responsible adult must be in attendance for their child/children’s entire session. Please direct any questions, comments or concerns to swim instructor Paula Oeler (mobile/text 920-854-0035), Rec Center manager, Katie McGrane (manager@moslingreccenter.org), or Community Center Committee representative Emily Small. Rec Center Front Desk: 920-84 7-2226. We are all looking forward to another fun and learning-filled session!
PLEASE NOT POOL SCHEDULE CHANGES DURING SWIM LESSONS. NO OPEN SWIM THESE DAYS!
